ok in one week im droping my motor off at the honda service shop for a 416 kit. basically this is whats goin into it

wiseco 11:1 piston 87 mm
XR gaskets
new wrist pin and clips

its got all ready

new timing chain
Hot cam stage 2 (old stage 2 )
ported and polished
Yoshi complete pipe
edlebrock carb

i had the head off and i looked at the valves and the exaust valve looked crapy they just had a bunch off black crap on them is that normal? the intake look pretty decent should i change the valves? or do anything else with my motor?

the black crap is normal carbon build up. have the dealer. check your valves if they need replacing they will tell you.

i thought thats what it was but i just wanted to know if they were bad, theres no way of telling? cuz i like to buy the parts myself instead of the dealer because of cost issues. they wanted 160 for the piston i got for 85, so if i knew they were bad i would get them alot cheaper

Have them do a valve job while it is apart. That carbon will come off of the valves if they work it hard enough, besides they need to reseat the valves anyway.

I would also recommend that you get the head ported and polished. I just had a 400ex head done by a local guy and the power that it brought was amazing. The smoother the air and fuel can flow into the combustion chanber the better off the motor will run.

Also, have them check the play in the rod on the crankshaft. Once you start building motors those rods take a lot more abuse, especially when you raise compression.

well he already has it ported and polished. i think your building a good strong 416. looks like you have about everything. if you dont have a k&n filter or uni go out and buy one. and that would be all i think.

How much is it costing you for Honda to put the 416 kit and Piston in it? Also to get it ported and Polished. I am running a 400ex right now with exhaust, intake and the stage 2 Hotcame in the GNCC circuit, but I need a bit more power to hold with the 450's on the open trails. I do great on the hill climbs and woods ....

if you looks at what he already has done, he listed that he had it ported and polished.

im running an UNI forgot to list that, honda is doing it for $140 because i already have the parts. its 140 with the motor out of the bike, over 200 if you bring them the whole quad, thanks for the help

I just saw that he had carbon build-up on the valves. That is the only reason I said to port and polish it. He at least needs to go ahead and do a valve job or get some different valves.
