Hey my 02 400ex is having some problems. My brother was ridign it and stopped to cross the street, then when he went to go again it died. Now it wont start unless you pull start it. And then when it does their is a ticking noise, and a lot of white smoke. If you try and ride it it will just died, and has no power.

do you mean push start it? The 400ex's don't have a pull start. My dads 400ex had some white smoke, we figured out it was the valve seals. The ticking is probably the valves. And try cleaning out your carb and see if it still won't start. The no power thing could also be burned out valves or a burned out piston from not adjusting the valves.

does anyone know about how much that would cost? to adjust, and how much more to replace. Trying to see if i should bring it in tomorrow or wait a week till i can save up some money.

ask C&D bout the price but another thing that could be wrong is that you could have some water in ur carb or gas maybe just another thought but i would take it in soon as possible the more you ride it the more your prob gonna advance the problem

i havent been riding it, it dies as soon as you put it in gear, and barely stays running if you are in neutral.

It could be that you broke a ring on the piston.

yeah mine just did that and i put new top end gaskets in it ne wpiston rings and a new wiseco piston .....and cleaned my carb real good.. mine runs like a champ now.. there was still some smoking when i got done but it was just some oil left in my exhaust and it just had to burn out... good luck

i brought it to the honda dealer near me, and they adjusted the valves, and it still got no compression. Right now im waiting for one of my friends to let me know about a new motor. I guess the kid hit a tree and broke his frame. So i might just get that motor cheap if i can and put it in mine.

If that the case, what do you want for your motor?
