OK, so there are a few things I would like to polish up real nice on my bike so I went to sears and got a polishing wheel and the compound.

What I would like to know before I try to do anything is what to do first to say prep it.

Lets take the exhaust heat shield on the side or a clutch lever. What would be the first steps to starting that.

Note that the heat shield has paint on it already and the clutch lever is kinda a dull polish.

Any info to start out with would be appreciated. Thanks

You should start with the lever as it should be aluminum and the heat shield is steel.

The lever would just need polishing unless its real banged up. You will most likely need to sand the heat shield with graduating grits of sand paper (up to 1000, 1500 or even 2000) before you start hitting it with the buffer wheel.

You should look into doing a search as well since this has been discussed b4.
