wiseco is a good piston. alot of people dont like them because with the 400ex motor their compression ratios are not correct because they were made exactly like the XR400 pistons. and the XR uses a thiner head gasket. if you put an XR head gasket on your 400ex the comp will be closer to what it should be.

I run a wiseco and have never had any trouble. Just whatever preference you have, or which ever you decide to go with.

Duke416-

Did you run the thinner head gasket as was mentioned earlier in this thread?

I am going with a GYTR for my YFZ450. I know its not the best, but I have faith that Yamaha pulled their heads out of their arses and did some research on the compatibility before they backed it. Only time will tell.

The problem isn't just the headgasket. Even with a thinner headgasket, the comp ratio will still be really low. You need to eliminate the base gasket, a thinner head gasket, and then you'll start to get close.

so if you get the JE for the ex then the stock head gaskets are fine? u will have the true compression?

Obviously no one reads what he meant :)

JE=wiseco and wiseco=JE now so no matter who thinks what sucked the most they will both suck equally since its now under one company.

I have had wiseco in my 500 with Zero Problems.

je is still je even though wiesco owns them, they arent changing the pistons and je is still the ones making custom pistons. wiesco doesnt.

I used a three plate steel cometic gasket. The place I ordered from messed up and got me a 10.5 :1 instead of an 11:1 like I wanted. I never have checked to see what the true compression is, but I have had no trouble with the set up at all, none. I have had the set up for about a year and a half now. I am thinking of going back through the motor though just to insure that everything is good and to replace the rings and stuff for security. If I do I am going to remove the base gasket and use the same type head gasket again.
