I can bottom it out just setting on it hard. Is the shock blown or is it normal I only weigh 165 lbs. I am just wondering if I should try to get it rebuilt or should I keep looking for a 01 rappy rear. I just can't see how the shock can be toast when the bike is only a 02

Sound like your shock is blown. Age of the shock does really have that much to do with it, seals can fail at any time. The rear shock on your 300ex is not serviceable.

so I guess I should keep trying to find a raptor shock rather than just putting another stock one in!

The 01 raptor rear shocks are some hard to find. You can't actualy tell if a shock is blown untill you put it on the bike can you . I just don't wan't to buy another blown shock!

Then send your 300ex shock out for a rebuild or buy an aftermarket shock made for your bike - you won't gain much at all by using the rear shock off of a Yamaha Raptor, that shock was not designed to be used on a 300ex. Yeah, it fits, but it doesn't work the way it was built to.

I am looking for a cheap fix and I was told that the stock 300ex shock is non servicable

Find a used aftermarket shock for a 300ex.
