my car has some kinda tappin i think its the valves. i was low on oil when i started. should i use thick straight 40 oil and thin 10w 30

Try changing the oil. I have an annoying lifter tick, that changes with the oil I have. I used Quaker State oil thinking it was better quality but the ticking was louder than when I used the cheapest oil from Wal-Mart. Also start the car and try and figure out where the ticking is coming from. I had my mechanic buddy take a look at it and he said it's fine, someday I should replace the lifters though.
