9 inch rear wheels with 18x10.5x9 tires is there any advantages or disadvantages for running this for mx? over the 8in rear wheels
I have 9in rear hipers and dont want to buy new 8in rear wheels just to do mx is that ok?

why dont you just see if you can trade them for 8 inch hipers but i dont really see any difference except with a 9 inch mx tire you will have a small sidewall

I run the 9" rims because I still have my stock rims - I like the 9" rim with the 18" tires...they have worked out really well for me......not worth trading to a new size if you ask me.

If you use the 8" rear Hipers, the hubs are incorporated into the rim. This is a big advantage! That means you no longer need your heavy stock rear hubs.
It saves a total of 4 pounds! That is alot of unsprung weight to lose and makes quite a difference in handling.

Something to consider.

PS: The extra inch of sidewall makes for more comfy riding as well...

I run Hiper 9x9 dual beadlock rears and I love them! It's a great compromise between the cushion of an 8 inch rim and the handling of a 10 inch rim..best of both worlds. Like 400grl said, not worth trading for 8 inchers IMO.
