my friend gave me an old trailer that had been sitting up in his field for a long time. he had since boughten a new one and had no use for it. it used to be a pop-up camper. however, the title was lost years ago. how would i go about obtaining a title for it? the trailer is 5'X7'. is a title even necessary? hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

i tore it down to the frame this afternoon, and it's still in decent shape. i got most of the rust off of it, and tomorrow i am going to paint it---- green and silver---to match my truck. then i have to install lights and wiring and she'll be done.

i just have to get this title situation taken care of.

I converted a boat trailer into an ATV trailer and they just titled it as new "homemade".

You will have to get a title for it, in order to put plates on it.

just have it listed as Homemade. I have done this several times. But you will need to know how much it weighs..;)

Regardless of how small it is, in most states ANY trailer needs a title and registration.

Not sure if it is the same there but in California, if it's home made, you'll need to have either the CHP (Highway Patrol) inspect it or take it to a DMV inspection station and have it signed off before you can register it.
