i have the hrc kit and it works good for me,the kit helps alot more than ppl say, when i had it put in i thought i had a 13 front sprocket with it and rode it for months, and was liek wow, b/c teh bottom end, it had, with teh punch, then when something came up,i took off teh sprocket and found out it was stock 14t,the kit gives lots of gains, and is geared perfect with stock with 18s

i use 2nd when traction is limited, and then when there is alot of traction i use 1st. first gear is still tall w/ 18s, but its fine for me, i feel factory gearing is perfect for 18s

With the 18s on the rear I dropped the front to a 13 so I can launch in second gear.

I start out in 2nd every time and every race but 1 i got the holeshot.

what gear you start off in also has alot to do with what tires you run, i had tamers (not grooved) my first race and when i went out in 1st there was to much wheel spin, and 2nd was perfect, but now that i have mxr4's.. it may be totally different

I run 13 front....start in 2nd gear and i have still not lost a holeshot..

I run a 13 on the front and a 39 on the rear with 18 inch mxr4's and have not lost a holeshot yet. i can usually get them by about 4 bike lengths which i key in moto cross i also start in second gear.

I have stock gearing and 18inch holeshots and I never use first gear.

So if I was to change my sprokets, it'd be the front to a 13 tooth, and the rear to a 39 tooth?

The 18's I already have, just need the sproket sizes now.

just to let u know alil something. gearin is prolly one of the most important things about mx. if u don't have the right gearing, u ain't goin to do very good, the 13t is good for smaller mx /sx type tracks, but i know the 14t is better for more wide open tracks with bigger jumps, the smaller front ,makes a big diff. but u need to balance it out good, if i was u i wold try to get alil more powe and see how it balances out,b/c if u get a smaller sprocket and then upgrade motor i bet u'll end up switch back to stock, but alot of guys i know, only use 13t for sx,and they said they like 14t which all the teh built motor has,b/c the 13t holds back teh top speed of each gear if u don't have it balanced out

Gear that pig down..Run a 13/38 on all tracks,we, as well as guys we race with run that gearing all the time even at Glen Helen..Make that motor rev hard and all the time, its better to have the power right there with no bogging or hesitation because we all know thats what gets you in trouble. Whats the point of having 5th gear if you dont use it? Even on some of the tighter tracks in AZ we are in 5th. Tighten that ratio up so when your coming into a corner 4th gear pinned (lets say) and you drive it in deep and brake as hard as you can, downshift to 3rd, pin it and come out of the corner hard. Try to run 4th gear pinned into a 180 corner and come out hard in 3rd with stock gearing. Not happening. JMO

So basically what you said was that if I use a 13t, I will NOT be able to hit the top speed of every gear?

even on small SX tracks i find stock gearin to be the best, i feel that when u gear down you're shifting to much and actually losing speed. idk, i think it's all preference

I'm just looking for a gear ratio that when I hit a big double and have a sharp turn rite after the landing, I want to be able to sqaure up, shift down and be able to take off with no trouble

R3Concepts
06-27-2005, 04:50 PM
Then def. go with the 13/38. The power will be right there, especially when you have that sharp 90 or 180 to a larger double.

what is stock gearing

Yes, that's perfect. There's always a larger double that I either hafta pound one gear or shift up and bog it over.

Now with that ratio, will I hafta shift alot quicker, or will the gears be longer

So rite when the gate drops I should already be in second gear before I take off

trost66
06-28-2005, 07:41 PM
I have stock gearing and i start out in second. I try to get as far away from the gate as they will let me. when they give you the 5 second board i start rolling ahead a little and watch the gate. When it dropps let it eat. Just don't just don't dump the clutch. Then just start going threw the gears. That is just my opion though

roostin_dale
06-28-2005, 09:11 PM
