What makes a LOUD knocking and its not your valves. The noise is up by the valves but its not the adjustments. I've adjusted and re adjusted. Need help. I have a stage 2 hotcam and 11:1 weisco 88mm piston(426).

Prolly the cam, or crap bouncing around in yer cylinder...not likely, but I have seen it.

sooooooooooo is there a problem? I was thinking that my valve was hitting the top of my piston.

I have the same setup. (426, hot cam 2) I had a knocking sound coming from top end, thought it was valves also. Turned out to be wore out cam chain, really slack to the front of engine. I put the hd cr cam chain in noise left. Hope this helps

Where do i find something like this..............either a crf chain or hd 400ex chain.....does the crf chain need to be any particular year?

the crf450 chain must be an 02. call up c&d racing they can get you one for $33. thats much cheaper than a stock 400ex cam chain and alot heavier duty.

I just took it apart and it looks like the chain jumped a tooth or two on the timing. That mean that i need a chain? And is it really hard to put a new chain and guids in?

yea sounds like its streched. its not too hard. depends on which route you take. you can take off the side case cover, stator and flywheel and then just put the chain on with your hands and route it up. or you can just take off the head cover and tie a string the chain and try to get it to hook on the sproket down below. might take a little bit, but saves you some money on gaskets.

You cant put your cam chain on from the flywheel side. I just put all that together and there is no way you can do that. You must mean fromt he clutch side.

you have to take the cluch side cover off because you have to take the nut and gears off of the oil pump to get the chain on.

It doesnt seem to be too hard. I think i'll get it i just dont like the idea of taking apart my oil pump.

You know those days where nothing goes right? Im having a whole rebuild of these days. I put everything together and everything worked fine(that didnt go smoothly). When went to put my new hmf on this ticking started. Now i have no clue how to change this chain. I know its not hard and if i wasn't so wound up i would be able to do it but i am. I think i've punched every wall in my house.

What would be nice is some step by step instructions on how to do this. I know i should have a manual but i dont. Someone help me......................Im going crazy over this thing. :grr:  :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Damn man the exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I got a hot cam and the timing chain slipped. It made that really loud pinging noise becasue my intake valves were bent. cost a lot of money. you will probably need new cam bearings as well.

after you take the side cover off,you take the gear off of the oil pump, then take the nut off of the end of the crank.then slide the 2 gears off then the timing chain.reverse to put back on.get this cam chain,

FYI: Most of the Public Library's carry Clymers manuals.

Just go and photocopy the pages on changing your timing chain. ;)

i wish my library had clymer manuals, but they have like nothing pertainting to motorcyles, dirtbikes, or quads.

How do you get that damn bolt off the end of the crank i cant get the bike to stop turning over so i can unscrew it. And do you need to take the oil pump off or can you just take the gears taht the cam chain is on off.
