I've got a stock, unrestored all original 1988 Fourtrax 250R on original bore, tires, plastic, etc. that I'm thinking about selling and I was wondering if my fellow 250R riders could give me an idea of what to ask for it. I'm the second owner (I have the original owners manual and title) and the bike has been sitting for the past couple of years. It's all original except for the air filter, handlebars, front brake lines, handlebars, twist throttle and silencer. I've since purchased all of these stock parts, but I've never taken the time to work on the bike. I really hate to let it go, but it's nothing more than a trophy bike at this time, so I'll let someone else enjoy it.

Thanks!

I wish I was closer to Richmond, I'd come take a look. I'd like to have the seat off that bike. I'd give you 3500 for it any day.

Put all the original parts back on and don't take any less than 6000 dollars for it. About a month or so ago an all original 250r went for 12 grand. 250r's like you have are very rare, and there are people out there that will spen alot of money to get one of those.

That 250r was a very well restored 250r and I am not even sure someone bought it ! the guys feedback was lame.

That is a nice 250r and would think that it could bring 4 grand to the right person..

Most people would rather spend 6Gs on a new 450R !

Something as rare as an all original 250r will probably appreciate, like an old car

That's what I was hoping for when I bought it. You don't see too many of these anymore. That's why I don't even ride it. I do remember seeing one on ebay that went for an insane amount of money. I have new OEM fenders, graphics, rear shock, another mint original seat, new calipers, pipe, etc. The bike doesn't need a new coat of paint, only touched up in the usual areas.

i bought mine almost exactly like urs in feb 04 for 4 g's. it almost looked exactly like that. it had a filter, silencer, and grips. that was it. i would ask no less than 4500 for that 250.

I paid $4885 for a 99% original 88 250R earlier this year. I was told before buying it was 100% original except for the tires, but later found out the stock slug was long gone, it had bent bars, worn clutch, trashed chain and sprokets, aftermarket 12 tooth front sprocket, some bad rear bearings and seals in the swing arm/linkage area, and a good amount of parts that were touched up w/ spray paint. I would have only paid $4000 or less knowing these things before hand. BUT, what do you expect on a 17 year old quad. It was still rare being nearly 100% stock and original. Now that all issues have been addressed, I couldn't be happier with the beast. I am now struggling to find a used seat pan for an 88 to throw new foam and a gripper cover on. The stock seat cover is an butt accelerator!:eek2: This thing is dangerous to ride with that seat. It feels like it's permanently armoralled! My YFZ's stock 04 seat (before Yamaha moved to facotry gripper covers) grips my arse just fine. Maybe 17 years will make the vinyl slipperier. :huh

Number22,
I think the price will vary on a quad like that. If you need to sell quickly, you could get $3500 in no time with no effort. If you put it on ebay and put a $5500 reserve or buy it now, you may get a 250r fanatic in B.F.E. who's been looking for a trophy quad. This may take lots of time and several listings at $40+ each, but it is a gamble that may pay off. Also - getting it titled will increase it's value. Machines this old with a title are rare, and potential buyers WILL pay more to have "paperwork." The drawback is that this may be a pain in your arse! My DMV ladies are sticklers, and I have had to get very creative at times to get titles for these things. This takes alot of work. So how much time, energy, and money are you willing to spend? Hope this helps...
Kyle

I just sold my 89 trx for 3800. Took 2 days. It was all original and stock. What I found from looking around was 1 aftermarket part ruins the collector value. I had to rechange the gearing and pipe on it. Their seem to be alot of people looking for original. I should have listed on ebay, to many people called or showed up looking for a free ride.
