i have a 2002 400ex that i run turbo blue race gas in. now i havent ran it for a week but usually i ride it every week. but i went to start it today and it would not start. i checked if the gas was on and it was then i tryed pumping the throttle and chokeing it and nothing. so i pulled the plug and it was dry. what do you think is wrong??? i took everything apart and still nothing. when i look into the cab is spits some gas out were the air box is but not alot and thats when i am turning it over but still didn't start. the plug smells like gas but it is not wet. and i tryed a new plug also.

but when i pump the throttle when the carb off it does squrit gas out. so does that mean i might not be getting any spark?

pull the plug and place it on the side of the cylinder with the wire hooked up and crank her over and look at the plug for spark. if you got spark then it could be compression. if its compression. thats maybe a new piston and maybe an overbore. or it could be a burnt valve witch would mean head work.
if your ex is not setup to run race gas, then all your going to do is wast money and burn the dam thing up.

stock up till 11.5:1 93 pump gas
12:1 - 13.5:1 VP C-12 112 octane
13.5:1 - 14.5:1 VP C-14 114 octane

rule of thumb high octane burns slow

you can make more HP with lower octane since it burns fast and hot with an engine tuned porperly

I run sunoco ultra94.

its not getting any spark. i just tested it on the frame. so what would that be the coil?

could be that you have a short to ground on the kill switch. or yes it could be your coil. have your coil tested at your local honda dealer.

you said you tested uit on the frame, was it a bare spot on the frame? if not you probably do have spark but think u dont because the paint stops the elec. connection.

Is your battery 100 percent? Those aftermarket CDI's are known for this. If you still have stock cdi, try that.

running race gas wont burn it up. the higher the octane the better for your motor. you said it your self lower octane burns fast and hot, burning hot causing it to burn up the motor, yeah it wasting money if your putting it in a stock bike but it wont burn it up, it will just make it run a little bit cooler but if his sig is right hes runnin 11:1 comp so race gas is good but he could probably get away runnin a 50/50 mix with 93 pump gas to save a little bit of cash

i usually just run straight 93 or 94 but i just wanted to try race gas a few tanks and see if i could feel a difference.
