Im going to start my conversion bracket to run 400ex shocks on my 300ex. I know some of you have done this, what dimensions did you use?

I have taken my calipers out, and it looks like the 400ex has a center to center of 10.827~275MM and the 300ex measures 7.874~200mm. I did not remove the bolts and get a real good measurement on either yet, just a eyeball number that ended up real close to round metric numbers.

The dimensions Im not sure how to get it the rise dimension. The only way I can think to do it is to measure the frame/ground dimension, and keep it the same between the two shocks. Then raise the top mount accordingly. But im afraid that with the longer travel, a person might bottom the frame.

Thanks for any help guys

PM Redrunner and he can send you the dimisions. I used his and it works awesome!

Here is a couple different versions I did.

more with the longer length Elka's, note the mounting distance can be made longer or shorter depending on the shocks you use. These shocks were custom built buy Elka for this application.

how did you come up with the rise dimension? Trial and error? Then you just gave the person setting the shocks the dimensions used?

A little of both....

I believe I took measurements of the bike in stock form free standing, ride height at front and back. Then the mount to mount hole distance which gave me the stock length. Then just added the distance of the rise by the length difference of the shocks to be put on. This was the first go around with the works shocks set up for about my weight. They are pretty easy to adjust ride height so I was not to concerned about ride height adjustment. Now, when I went full bore mod with the elkas I did a whole lot of measuring and talking to Yan for leverage ratios and stroke length for travel. Ended up with over 10" of front travel!

So I guess doing this conversion using stock 400 shocks is assuming the sag will be about the same, my advice is to go with 300 + arms like I did also rather than 400 arms because it does make a huge difference.

Maybe get the full length of travel of the 400 shock compressed, take off the shocks and let the quad sag as far as possible until it bottoms, if it does. Then bring it up an inch and see what rise height you get, that of course may make ride height to low. If you have the resources make a few weldments at the same time at different rise heights and swap them out, it is pretty cheap mod.

Thank you Redrunner

Ideally, I would like to take my works of my 400ex and have them set-up for the 300ex with some 300ex +2's, and them buy some elka's for my 400ex, but realistically for now, it will keep stock arms, and get my stock 400ex shocks.

Jeff,

In this thread you mention that the top mount is farther out than the 400ex. Can you enlighten me on what the dimension should be?
