if the bottom end of a 250R engine has the wider cut outs for the front mottor mount bolt and a 26th tooth 6th gear, is it an 88,89 year bottom end??? how can i tell if its not the older atc (1982-1985) model ??????? i know this is a stupid question, but im just wondering,, thanks guys

Well its definately not a 1982 to 1984. As far as the cut out the motors are all interchangeable so its really a hard to tell.

It sounds like it is a 88-89 bottom end.. A 85 is black but I have never seen the wide cut in the front!

Biggest diff in the water cooled R motors is the crank and gear ratio.Over the years people have swapped parts around so that ther are motors with the 86-87 tranny and the 88-89 long rod crank.Look at the crank,if it has HA2 on it its a long rod,HA4 or KA4 its a short rod. This is of more concern than the tranny or what year the case halves are.the crank will determine what piston you need.
