My 400ex is a 2001 and i think the rings are going bad because its blowing alot of blue smoke wen i start up and run for the first few minutes until it gets warm and the piston expands a lil. I was just wondering what i would need to get and to do to rebuild it, like would i need just new rings or a whole new piston and rings etc. etc.
thanx

1. take it apart and look at the walls of the cylinder. if they look good (check to make sure they're true), no heavy grooves, then have a local shop hone the cylinder. 2. if the piston looks good (no imperfections with the valve cuts, no shavings missing off the rings grooves, no shavings off the circlips holding the wrist pin in... then all you need is a ring set and top end gasket kit. $50 bucks for the gaskets. $40 for the rings.

good luck and torque everything to your manual's specs
