it provides better airflow. the bigger the more air flow. water can get in the box.

More power from more air WHEN combined with a jet kit and exhaust. Drawbacks--more crud you should prefilter at the holes. Nine 1" ers did it for me on a 300EX.

i wouldnt ruin the air lid, just remove it completely and put on an outer wear for the filter. you may want the lid so when you go to wash it or your ridin trails that have a lot of deep muddy spots or a place you have to cross a creek or river you may want to have it on. just my opinoin though:)

you can put uni vents in your lid gives more air flow and still allows you to keep the protection of your air box lid.

I just put an outerwears lid on it and cut the stock lid. I made a big hole in the middle, but left the outer rim intact. That way, the hole is about 1.5 inches higher than the airbox itself. Mud doesnt seem to get onto the outerwears too much. Plus, the outerwears is waterproof, so if it did, it wouldnt matter. You just cant submerge it. (even if you did adn had your lid on, the water would travel in through the snorkle)

I will agree that it does make washing it a little more complicated though.

i took my airbox completely off and drilled a few little holes in the bottom of the box to drain any water that gets inside.
