i finally decided to skip engine problems and make my 416ex to a 426.. i read about 30 posts about this topic and i got lead in all different directions... i just kinda want the basics so i can get it right...
what i need to know is ...
--what compression and type of piston do i need for a 426
--what other things am i going to need to put in this motor
--is there a place that sells everything i need as a kit (im going to have a company build it locally and i told them i could get them all they need but theyre going to do the boring etc.)
-- can i run premium pump gas
-- finally... what is the bore over stock.. i believe a 416 is .04 over what is a 426?
sorry for all the questions but i just want to get this right the first time
PS i already bought a 450R carb and a sparks CDI box i just need to know what i need in the engine

there are a a few diff pistons to choose, wiseco, je, ross.. etc...
for pump gas i wouldnt run higher than 11.1:1 compression, and if you got the money, a carillo HD rod and some HD head studs will make it all more reliable, wouldnt be a waste of money IMO
make sure u get some good gaskets like cometic stainless or flexsteels
everything you would need , call C&D racing, ask them about it, they can hook u up

i contacted a guy locally and he said to install a kit could be up to 2700 dollars!? :huh

Does that come with vasoline or do they stick it in dry?:huh For near 3k I would want an all out stroker with nearly everything done to it. I out a 416 in mine with a full p&p and did the rebuild myself, except the port work and had less than 500 in it.

so if i buy the 426 kit from Cand d which i was told totals out to about 285 for sleeve piston and something else...then i have it professionally installed.. im looking at like 600 or so?
if i do this ^ will it be a strong motor?

Hook up with an engine builder.
Mickey Dunlap at Fourstroke Tech (www.fourstroketech.net) is who I use.
A full bigbore installed w/ porting polishing, oversized valves, springs, piston, sleeve, clutch springs, CDI mod, Cam, etc.. will be around $1500-1800 (parts included).

what if i just went with four stroke techs basic 440 kit.. which is $295 ( plus labor).. what else do i NEED to have a reliable motor?

C&D can get you all most everything. If your going 426, I would get the sleeve to make it more reliable. So your looking at the 426 Piston, Sleeve, a good Cam, I would go with a Port/Polish with a 3 angle valve job, and a FCR39 would be a good strong motor. You could go without the carb. For more reliability, get a crf450 cam chain, and some heavy duty head studs, less then $100 for both. Also a Sparks 8 plate clutch kit makes a huge difference, and combine that with a Hinson basket. C&D should be able to get you all setup with that stuff...

and w/o the carb and the clutch basket and clutch plates... how much money am i looking at spending?
i already have a 450R carb and a new cltuch ready...

I'm not really sure on the price, but all ready having that stuff will knock it down quite a bit. Call C&D, they can get everything for you...

406 is 1mm overbore(40 over), 416 is 2mm, 426 is 3mm. I would recommend a new sleeve with 426 also. Also, why are you going to a 426? I doubt the power difference will be noticeable between 426 and 416. The 426 will run hotter than a 416. Just my .02

im going to go to a 440...
ill buy-----
sleeve pitston and rings..(kit)
port and polish...
cam...
HD cam chain...
HD head studs
+labor....
am i looking at like 700-800 dollars for all of that^

Sounds like a good setup. You could either get everything from C&D, or go from somebody like GT Thunder...
