I know that front shocks need some grinding but don't know for the rear.Maybe some grinding will be needed

400ex SUSPENSION
Front: Independent, double-wishbone with Showa shocks, five-position spring-preload adjustability; 8.2-inch travel
Rear: Pro-LinkŪ fully adjustable single Showa shock; 9.1-inch travel

450r SUSPENSION
Front: Independent double-wishbone w/Showa shocks, featuring adjustable spring preload, rebound & compression damping; 8.4-inch travel
Rear: Pro-Link w/single Showa shock featuring adjustable spring preload, rebound & compression damping; 9.0-inch travel

generic info...
doesnt appear to be much different by the specs. 0.1" of travel .. if you could realistically feel that distance.

they look pretty darn close, but ive not actually broke out the calipers on the mounting.

450r has better valving and is softer. Put it on the EX and you will love it. More sag and a really nice shock. But by the time you buy that you could have gotten your stock rebuilt and be way better.
