hey,

I am looking for some spindles. Should I just go new and do service honda? Are there and real drawbacks to used spindles and whats the part number or price from service honda? THanks alot

Unless you are building a show quad, save your money and buy a used set. Just make sure you get the correct set for your hubs. '88-'89 use the same hubs and bearings as the 400EX.

You can also get OEM parts for a 250R from Alba Action and a couple other places.

Do you think it would be cheaper to get the 400 ex hubds rather than the 250r...is there any downside to this because I def want to run R brakes

btw best of luck catching that yz guy

yz440 is going down!

If you have '88-'89 spindles you can use 400EX hubs but if you want to use the aluminum 400EX spindles you will have to spend $200 on caliper adapters since the 2 piston 250R calipers are better than 400EX calipers by leaps and bounds.

The rotor mounts are different too. '86-'87 hubs have 4 bolt rotor mounts while '88-'89/400EX have 3 bolt rotor mounts.

If you buy used, try to get the spindles/hubs/rotors as a set.

Make sure you get both left and right spindles for the same year. 88 spindles are different from 89, they have different part numbers, and I remember Bud Fischer from Fischer Cycles saying there was a big enough difference in them to make sure you have left and right from the same year. I could be wrong, but I think it's the angle or the heighth of the tie rod mount.

From Alba Action:

1988 spindle
51210-HB9-770 KNUCKLE, R. $110.75
51220-HB9-770 KNUCKLE, L. $110.75
1989 spindle
51210-HB9-740 KNUCKLE, R. $111.87
51220-HB9-740 KNUCKLE, L. $111.87

You can get 250R L/R spindles with hubs, calipers and rotors for less than $150 on Ebay. I paid $110 for a complete set a couple months ago and I just won a set of 400EX spindles with RPM hubs and OEM rotors for $235. RPM hubs by themsleves cost more than that brand new. Yes, I will be spending $200 on the adapter to use 250R calipers with 400EX spindles.

If you already have hubs, rotors and calipers it might be cheaper for you to buy brand new OEM spindles.
