I don't know for the break in but for the speed, the rider can do a difference.I don't think that Honda change somethings on the 300ex.

the breaking in of an engine is very important...

thats when the rings seat and everything gets used to spinning sliding grinding and combusting :D

you could

a break in period is very important like frosti108 say and if you don't do it your atv will not run at is best

if its really not running that great than i suggest installing an 11:1 cr piston and than breaking it in.

beats me

lol check for compression. im pretty sure if you dont break it in right it leads to badly seated rings which can lead to oil getting past the rings and into the combustion chamber and also the combustion to blow past the rings and so on... basically you can lose compression into the crank case

really tho im not sure what to check for. this stuff is just what i would do.

oh. see if your exhaust is blueish. and try to see if you can smell burning oil...

You're fine bro.

If your 300 is still fairly new.. you're probably just not loosened up yet.

Once you take it in and get the breakin oil out, readjust the valves, etc.. and put about another 20 hours on it, it will open up for you.

Note: I always break my atv in by riding it like I stole it. It actually seats the rings better than the way the factory tells you to.

The factory break in.. is still using the standards for an engine from the 1960's. Where the engine was rougher, and looser tollerances. The slow breakins were perfect. Now with the tighter tollerances and smoother sleeves they don't get enough friction under the easy breakin to really seat the rings well. Most ring blowby issues come from atv's broken in factory style or ones that didn't use break-in oil.

But... it is a VERY HIGHLY disputed topic both ways.. lol. About the same as Blaster vs. 300ex.. lol.

300ex has a black painted exhaust. ;) Even if it did have a SS exhaust.. most all pipes blue overtime anyway ;) But eventually your baked on mud will cover it up.. lol.
