View Full Version : 400ex Smoke!

Hey guys, my buddy brought over his 400ex for me to keep at my house and he said i could ride whenever i wanted. So i was out riding earlier and knoticed a blue-ish smoke cloud puffin out everytime i got on the throttle. He told me that his friend sprayed sum kind of "Gum-out" in the carb, and starting fluid on the K&N air filter, i was wondering if it was just this stuff burning off. Its not bad gas cause i drained it and put brand new gas in it. Would 87 octane make it smoke? Neways, help me out guys!

I dont think its the jetting either b/c it run perfect!

It just has a WB slip on and a k&N filter and its rejetted.

(it didnt used to do this!)

i bet his rings went bad but i dont know anything about that crap he sprayed in the carb and airbox

mine is only about 6mo old and i noticed yesterday that when i get on the trottle hard and then let off like coming into a corner it puffs smoke also,thought it may be the jetting,but anyone elses opion would be appreciated.

more whitish than bluish,and it only does it coming off wot

yea, mine does too, only say doing donuts with a ton of stress on the motor, and then i stall itwithout relieving the stress and start it back uyp it will puff a little... could it just be becuase these things run so hot?

and as far as your problem with you buddies wheelers, sounds like his rings are goin bad, it could have been like that before just no one has noticed it, and plus, i wouldnt truely worry about it too much... and who the hell sprays starting fluid on a K&N? that stuff makes the motor run dry quick

my fresh 416 smokes a little bit once it gets hotter, could be because i am expirimenting with synthetic oils,, i read a thread and was told that Rotella T was pretty good but i guess its not the best,, so im just gonna stay with klotz. i dont have a perfect explination for why they do it. i think mine is because of my oversize valves tho.
