They can't be adjusted, they can only be shimmed. All I know is that you have to remove the cam and a lot of stuff...hopefully someone else will come along and help you.

All that must be removed is the valve cover (3 bolts), cam chain tensioner (2 bolts), cam sprocket bolts (2 hex bolts), cam assembly (4 bolts). In that order too! Before you take anything apart you need to put the motor to TDC and check your clearance. Then after taking out the cam assembly remove the shims and reinstall the new one's according to what you need.

It's also nice to have the $55.00 tool for the chain tensioner. did my cam this weekend and everything was still right on.with about 35 to50 hours on it..

You paid how much for that tool! I have a shop and still use a small screwdriver to do it. I've also made a couple out of sheet metal too if I need one to lock it in place when the motor is in the frame where you can't get both hands in there.

there is a good chance they are adjusted incorrectly from the factory, or at least some of them. mine varied a lot. i checked mine and installed a new cam after about 2 hours of riding. i was surprised but they varied a lot. i went ahead and just bought the hotcam shim kit. in the kit the numbers go in increments of 5. for example, there is a 170, 175, 180, 185, 190, etc. i wish there were smaller increments in between. i believe honda makes increments like 170, 172, 175, 178, 180, 182, etc. i think the honda ones are like that, but i am not 100% sure. however, you get a ton of shims in the hotcam kit. buying all of the honda ones would cost a fortune unless you just bought the ones you need.
this link will show you how to change the cam. if you follow these directions on how to remove everything you should be fine. this will also explain the shims a bit. like i mentioned, you can not always get the valves perfect because the lack of some shims. i ended up getting mine really close so i was happy.

I didn't say i paid $55.00 I said it cost $55.00..I paid $30.00 but i would rather used the right tool for the job but if a screwdriver works for you more power to ya ..And the motor was in the frame a little tight ..
