whats wrong with 05 400ex owners?

no offense to 05 owners who arent like this, BUT

1. why are you guys so persistant indefying math/physics. Every post i see is always people getting extremely defensive over people saying that the 99-04 is faster or has a higher top speed....just deal with it. it doesnt make your bike any less fun, and its not saying you cant build yours as fast as the others can be. its the same bike, just moderate factory differences.

2. saying "05s are nicer" no matter if you say it 200 times or not, it doesnt make it true, its opinion plain and simple.

3. while the reverse is nice, i feel some people need to learn to deal with the fact that alot of us have little or no use for it.

Brother....I am Behind you 110%. I understand that most 05 400ex owners get a little defensive when you tell them that their "new and improved" 400ex only goes 3 mph faster then a blaster and is 8 or 9 mph slower then the year befores. Since most people think whatever you top out at is how fast the quad really is they think this is BS but it is true. Get the bigger front sprocket and it will be fine.

Im sure weve all been in a situation where we could have used reverse, but most of the time i dont need it. Even in MX i have had quads flip in front of me and i have to get off, Flip theres over to get to mine and then back up and go.
I dont know or care what the 05 owners think im just sayin I hear ya brother. :devil:

Myself, I'd GLADLY give up a few mph top speed to have reverse, and that great "new bike" feeling. The suspension is better too, isn't it....just the shocks anyway. I like the older plastics better than the '05.

i think *****ing about whos quad is faster and who's is nicer is pointless.
no mater what year, its still an EX. and is still nice...reverse is for ppl who cant lift there quad anyway:p :devil:

i think the reason 05 owners get on the defensive is on the posts ive noticed that guys that have 04 and down usally are talking about the reason you dont need the 05 and the changes that were made are a wast of money.now if this had been an 04 that u just bought u would be on the defensive also.i had an 03, and when i bought my 05 icould of bought an 04 a1000 dollars cheaper but to me the 04 felt just like my 03 and the 05 was like night and day.i loved my 03 but i also love my 05 if they were sitting side by side i would have to take my 05 jmo.

agreed.. i rarely ever see 5th gear, let alone top speed..

id easily give up a little speed for reverse.

but i dont agree with the suspension comment..
its my understanding that theyre the same old shocks theyve always had..
honda missed the mark by not upgrading the fronts to the 450r shocks..(as many owners have done anyway)

the suspension is the same. i could care less about reverse, there pretty light so all ya gotta do is just push it or lift it or whatever. i like the look of the older ex's better but new ones dont look to bad. i just wish they would fix the hood on the R's and new ex's, it looks like someone just chopped of the front end or sumthin:ermm:

i agree with bloodhound.. alot of the time the 05 owners are defending themselves because the 99-04 ppl are alwyas saying how they dont like the 05 and reverse is for *****s and how much faster the 04' is.. well i could care less have fun on all of them cause its basicly the same thing.. and anyways with few mods the 05' can beat an 04' , so im happy.. enjoy riding..even if its on a 250ex or maybe even a craptor

umm.....i dont think im better than any 04- owner, but i would like reverse alot more because i am always in the woods with tons of trees and tryin to keep up with my friends who have ute atv's its nice havin reverse.

Maybe you need a 04 or older to get that extra speed they have.

na man i pu that the wrong way...what i meant was when we have to turn around...they all got reverse and there out in a second and so am i with the reverse. I used to have to get off and turn it around and it was a pain in the *** cause they were already back on the trail. Reverse is a helpful thing to have. O yea i do smoke the shyte out of the utes.

I have an '05 and im not going to say "you guys suck mines awesome cus its new!"
But i have beatin 3 03-04's with mine. it might be because their motor is beat up? im not sure, but i love it. I understand theres some cocky people on here that think just because they have a brand new quad that it beats all, but you guys put them down a little too much, its the same quad...with new plastics and reverse....

Only thing i dont like "hey is that a 450r!" but i love the new plastics ;)

a quad doesnt perform its best until you get a great rider on it, with that said, i'll show you guys what the 05 is all about :D jk jk

i got an 05 trx400ex and i dont care if the earlier years are faster mine looks better :p and have reverse haha and i got mine where ill spank any year 400 ex so if yall want to brag go ahead but anyone down here in florida that has a big head thinking they can beat an 05 400 hit me up we can meet and ill beat u just playing.but im not playing about me beating any400ex (not including 416,426,440).and yall just made yalls dont look as kool.but all yall see is this.

True but you are talking about a 400ex vs. 400ex. I was talking about a 450 vs 400ex and weight isn't going to change the results in that race, its all the rider!

hey alex, randell and i went and only saw a few drops of rain, never got wet. Although the trail's were really wet, still had fun. This is the second big scrub ride you were suppose to go to that you missed :p maybe one day we can match up or '05s lol.

btw it must have something to do with weight because im a good riding and randell was definitly faster than me on his 450r, i could keep up, but as soon as we hit a flat straight away...that was it lol.

idk what happened it was up at dirtfarm on a 300 foot strip so we diddnt get out of 4t.but this rain always screws me up anytime me and my dad go it never rains and i makes plans with yalll and it pours:mad: but what can ya do?but would love to line our 400's up and ill show u and randall both up :p jk

I agree. I do realize that some people drag race there quads, but I bought and built my quad to race it the way it was ment to be raced. I really don't care about the 05's new plastic or reverse. For myself, reverse is useless. Their are people that will say spending a butt-load of $ on my quad is useless. Do what YOU want to do with it, not what EVERYONE else is doing.

after reading through this, its starting to look like atvconnection....

i got mine in 2004 vs. a 2005 model, because the guy i got it from NEVER rode it from 2001-2004 it had the dimples on the tires....to me reverse is nice, but i love what i have and plan on keeping it....as i hardly use reverse for where we ride.

heres my opinion on the plastics..

the 450r style looks like a fat forehead, or a bug, and the OLD 400ex plastic looks like eyes, and its stareing at you from every direction, and i love it!

and for the people who say that the older model are faster i would say to you NO WAY !! my girlfriend have a 2003 and my bike is a lot faster than her. I have a lot more torque than her and for top speed i have like 2 or 3 mph more.

I dont say what you say is wrong but my 05 is faster than all the other 400 i have tried (with stock motor!!)

maybe i was just lucky and my 05 is faster than other 05

Just bought a couple 04's new . I would have loved reverse but when your buying two at a time thats like $2600.00 difference. Could not justifie that. Beyond that. I just ride and have fun.

that makes no since. does the other 400 have exhaust and an aftermarket filter on it like yours? if not then no chit yours is gonna be faster

she have a yoshi exhaust and k/n filter, maybe she hat a 14 tooth front sprocket i dont remember

i ran her bike and by riding it you could tell my bike as more low end torque but in a drag my bike will start in front and its only when we shift the 5 that that he bike will catch the lost. and when we change the rider it made the samething.

and for top speed, all of my friends (exept 450) never lost me so i dont think my bike ran 59mph. i was clock at 89km/h (like 52-53mph) on my 300 and my 400 is a lot faster than the 300
so say what you want to say but i know my bike is a lot more powerfull than my girlfriends bike.

and if top speed is an issue for all of you here, just put a 16 tooth front sproket and 22" tire

a lot of people as put a 14 tooth on their bike cause a 15 is a little to high for a stock 400 engine and the ratio change in the transmition are hardly noticeable and the little more weight dont make a big difference for top speed
so why the 05 will be that much slower thant the older models
