Do u have to take the leftside case cover off a 300ex too change the seal. its the seal where the reverse shaft sticks out. if not how do u get it out and put a new one back in.

theres a seal on reverse lever shaft and one on gearshift lever, you can pull them out with a seal pic.

the tool that you are looking for is something like this: Pick (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=34328)

If you are picky about where the shifter is like me, first mark the shifter and the shaft so that you can put it back in the exact same place. Take the shifter off of the shaft, get in there with that pick and pull the old seal out, clean the shaft, then push the new one over the shaft and into place. Put the shifter back on.

Best of luck!
