does a timing chain from a 05 450r fit a 400ex. if so is there anything that has to be changed (tensioner, sprockets) to make it fit.

check with your dealer and see if it's the same as a 03 or 04 model crf450 cam chain. if it's not the same, just get the one for the dirtbike. it's only like $30 or so. that's was i put in my 400ex and it worked great. and i didn't have to change the tensioner or sprockets.

i called and they said the one for the quad is 2 links longer than the one for the 400, i will call and check to see if the bike runs a different chain than the quad. what aer the benifits to the 450 chain, i know its cheaper thats about it

I read that the CRF450 cam chain is much better than the 400ex cam chain ... thats is true?

some say this chain isn't exactly the same as a heavy duty timing chain for the 400ex, others say it is. my buddy and i both have these in our bikes and we never had any problem, along with other members. good luck

I have used one from an 02 model and it worked good.

yea on a 400ex you must use a 02 model crf450 cam chains. i think they are 112 link and the other years are 114. not sure, but i know the only one that will work right is the 2002's.

woops, i was wrong, it was the 02 and 03 crf that works. the 04 is different. and i had one from an 03, and it was the same as the stock ex, except wider and beefier lookin

service honda shows the same chain from 02-04. this is the part number they show: 14401-MEB-671


this is the exact same part number i ordered when i got mine.

then the 02 to 04 CRF450 cam chain will fit?

This is the same lenght that a 400ex cam chain?

no only the 02 will work. call up c&d racing and thye can tell you everything you would like to know about it.

that part number is the one i ordered for my buddy and i. both are working great. service honda says it is the same chain from 02-04. i do know that part number will work because i have used it in two bikes.
