new 450r

I just got a used 04 450r and got a few questions about it.
first the heat shield has been removed from the header pipe and it seems to run super hot. do all of them get pretty hot? also the wire going to the water line on the head is broke and no longer connected what all does this wire do? thanks for the help...the bike has the 11:1 piston and cam in it,

well, the header will get pretty hot. If it is getting hot enough to make the pipe glow, then you are jetted too lean.

if i remember correctly that wire should go up to your over temp light on the handle bars. its not going to hurt anything not being hooked up, but i would want it to make sure i didnt over heat

that may be for your fan control.. better hook it up. to test it ground the wire and see if the fan runs (quad has to be running)

when you ground it watch your warning light if it turns on instead of the fan thats what it is for :devil:

im told that this wire goes to the cdi box and cdi tells the fan when to come on at a certain temp...not a direct connection
