What hybrid should I do for my 400ex? yzf426,yz400,crf450, motor? I don't wanna have to spend alot of $ (like no more than $1500 for everything I will need) and don't wanna have a not reliable/hard to find motor. I want a motor that will run with the 450's in the dunes or atleast not get whooped by them. Lemme know everything I should know. If you have a motor LMK or need a 04' 400ex motor.
Thanx,cory

Two weekends ago I saw a guy at one of our local races kick some serious arse. He had a cannondale frame w/ a yz426 motor wedged inside. That thing hauled ***. It wasn't even running properly the thing had some major cooling issues and was smoking by the time the guy pulled off of the track. On the last race, two laps into a five lap race he lost his rear plastic and seat, and mangaged to still pull off a first in the amateur class. He was fast. I know that engine is supposed to be like a two stroke though with the power delivery, and then its supposed to have wicked engine braking which was one of its downsides. The CRF is always an excellent choice as well, but good luck trying to do all of this for $1500.

im trying to do mine by selling off all my ex motor engine stuff but it seems to me like the YZ type motor would be an excellent and the cheapest way through a hybrid thats what i am doing im just starting to gather parts thou im hoping to be DONe and throu by july 31st so if that gives you an idea of how long it takes thats just my hoping to be completed by date im expesting to spend an extra 400 or so on mine i want to NOT booger it together especially something that will be going 60+mph but motor mount kits for a YZ motor usually run about 300 for everything all motor mounts and mounts for a 250R radiator so that gives you an idea of mounts and the YZ motor usually runs about 1500 for one with the carb and electronics kinda pricey:ermm:

your looking at 2,000 for a good motor
600 for frame modification
and you still dont have carb, intake, exhaust, and kicker, shifter, coil

Sell the 400ex
