Got a problem. My A-arms squeek to no end. I know that are in need of grease, but my question is what type?! White lithium grease? Axle grease? Everything is stock and the machine is an 02 400ex. Also, what type of grease for the steering stem? I guess, basically the whole front end as well as the swing arm. Would the lithium grease work alright or should I use something else? If so, what? Thanks!

I have used chain lube before. My thoughts are that it is designed to apply watery and thickens as it sits. This will allow it to penetrate into the joint and then thicken, just like it is designed for chains. Worked for me.

Most likely the squeaking is coming from the lower shock mount, be sure to use a good grease in there, I don't remember what the type is but it has to be able to withstand the high pressures the shock mounts endure.

It's still a good idea to clean and grease ALL the moving parts on the front suspension.

After every wash,
I ride quad around the yard to blow off and get out the water.
Then I spray down the frame and suspension areas with WD -40.
Cleans, shines, removes sqeaks, and makes it easier to clean next time.
Black magic tire foam on the pliastics.

After I wash my quad I apply white lithium grease to my chain and front end. It keeps everything squeek free pluss your bushing usually last alot longer!

How are you guys applying the grease? Taking out every bolt and putting a light coating on or did you install zerk fittings? It would be a HUGE hassle to pull every bolt in the front end every time I wash it. Clue in the clueless here. Thanks!

i use axle grease. works very well, and can withstand high temps. wd-40 is not the best to use. it may lubricate that spot for a little, but it eats away any grease that is there. it is good to clean off chain lube or anything like that, but not good to lube moving parts. just take the bolts out and grease them every so often. if you want to, you can install zerks.

while i had my 400 torn down i coated every bolt and bushing in the front a arm i did one side with white lithium grease and the other sider with axle bearing grease. i havnt had a chance to ride it yet but i was bouncing up and down on the fron end and the only noise was coming from the shocks and it was just the shocks compressing. when i get a chance to ride it i will let you know wich grease held up better to water and mud and all other types of riding

my front end has an annoying squeak as well, i guess i have to take out every bolt to grease it?? any specific torques i should go for when i reinstall them or just med. tight?

you can use wd40 to get rid of the old stuff that may be gritty, but wd40 is mostly kerosene! not really much lubricant... dont the honda's have the nipple fittings for a grease gun? guess i have never paid enough attention...

screw it and dump something in there, if that doesnt work, try the next thing in line!

i drilled some holes in my stock a-arms and put in grease zerks. my wheeler is in pieces right now but im sure it will work. i also did it to my rear linkage.
