wut year do i need? and is CDI, stater and flywheel all i need for this upgrade?

Do you ahve a cr250 engine? you can find the year by looking at the nameplate number and searching for the year online.. or you can take off the jug and the year is imprinted there.

no, im wondering wut year i need to work on my R. I thought it was early 90's, but im not positive

ahh your looking for a compatible cr250r ignition for your trx250r engine....

believe they are the same just pic one of the same year... you can also contact service honda (www.servicehonda.com) and they can steer you in the right direction.

Baker,I think your right about the early 90s Cr.You also need an adapter plate to fit the R motor.Check out ESR250.com

Believe me it is really cheaper to get the whole set up through ESR. It comes with all the adapters that you need to mount the CR ignition to the TRX motor. I have done a few and the cost of getting the parts through Service Honda and buying the adapter plates are about the same price. The CR stator wiring rubber plug needs to be trimmed down for the TRX stator cover to go over it which ESR does for you. The 2001 CR ignition has the best ignition curve. I was told by serval builders like Parkard, K&T performance and ESR.

i think its about 400 from esr. either 400 of 500 go to esr250.com and check it out

The one most people use is out of the 2001 CR 250. Those run about $450 for the honda parts at service honda. You'll also need the adaptor plate for it too. The adjuster plate is usually around $95.
