Picking up a 00 440EX tonight and the guy says the head gasket is blown. I've never been inside a 4 stroke motor and was wondering what's involved? A guy on 450r.org said that the studs might be coming out of the cylinder.. Just wanting to know what's up and if I should be on the lookout for anything

if your really lucky, you can get away with changing just the gasket witch is a really easy job, But if the studs are pulling out, very possible, you will have to get heavy duty studs, from FDO, GTunder..... these will never pull out. they are a little more involved to install cause you have to drill out the holes and retape, you can take it to a machine shop if you want it done perfect.then just reinstall the head and cam, then valve cover and you done

Buy a set of heavy duty head studs and a new gasket and you will be ok

After you check the studs. Check the head and cylinder surface for warpage,0 with a strait edge and feeler gauges. If there is more than .004 and inch of you will need the cylinder decked or the head milled.
