Most xc tracks a wider axle will just slow you down, or even just stop you in your tracks. I am debating arms, but after the last race, I think +1 will be to wide. You could just get an adjustable axle.

I say +1 but then you will need to buy 4+1 offset wheels. You also didn't say what kind of tracks that you will be hitting.

I believe they are talking about +1 arms, and it would be a good idea to get the 4+1 offsets so that it keeps the overall width about the same while using an extended arm, thus giving you more travel.

alright so what would be a good choice for +1 arms?

If your on a budget than burgard would be a good choice, you can also look on ebay they got lots of good deals on used a-arms.
As for an axle, I have the g-force adjustable axle and love it.... only $200 at Rocky Mountain:D

Houser makes a-arms specifically for the XC rider in mind. I have long travel Houser a-arms that are + .5 inch. So the overall width increase is only an inch. I also run 4+1 offset front wheels so there is a good possibility I am marginally more narrow than a stock YFZ. They make these for Honda's as well.

If you aren't going to get long travel shocks then you should get stock length a-arms. Either way I would highly suggest Houser for the XC racer. There are not many companies that have supported XC racing like Houser has. Most other companies cater to MX racers.

For the 400ex you will want +1 a-arms for XC. I have Arens LT, but there are many choices. Get them with some good shocks and 4+1 wheels, then for the axle I would go with the RPM XC race axle.

For XC +.5 or +1 for the Arms, but as Jeff said, you will need 4+1 front wheels to fit through the trees. The swingarm should be +1 or +1.5. For Axle, I would go with RPM or LSR, both back their product if something should happen.

If you want the best then go with ARS-FX for A-Arms and Swingarm. They come in a package with Custom Axis shocks. VERY expensive.

Burgard and Houser are my next choices.

I'm using a +2+4 lonestar axle set at +2 and stock arms with 2-3 offset rims. I'm pretty happy with the results. sometimes I hook the fronts but the rear has never been a problem.
