Both great bikes, the crf250 has the aluminum frame etc, a few hundred dollars more, while the yz250f is cheaper and is a good bike as well. Cant go wrong with both, from what I've herd both have new cams and some other mods for 2005.

crf250s are very exspensive to maintain, and the yz's are bulletproof

My 2001 yz250f is still on it's original topend and valves and the previous owner raced it every weekend for 3 years and I've ridden it hard since I got it a year ago. The yzf's are super reliable where as the crf's have alot of problems with the valves.

look into the suzuki and kawi 250's too, cause there supposed to be pretty good bikes. but i'd go with the yz

They have some pretty bad overheating issues.

only if your racing them hard, and you can just make a y in the radiator hose to get more water flow, problem solved...

most crfs are 3900 - 4500

yzfs are from 2200 - 4000

I've got a crf and I absolutely love it and the only problems Ive has is the radiators bend really easy. My friend on the other hand has a 04 yz250f that he got as a leftover and the valves wont stay in adjustment and it gets hard to start. Also i think the crf handles alot better than the yz, it just seems like a tank after getting off of my bike. There really are no power differences that I could tell other than the yz seems to be a little snappier. Pretty much it just depends on what you like.

Yeah I will be rebuilding it very soon, though the point is that I am on the original topend of a bike that has been ridden hard for the past 4-5 years and it's just now starting to lose power and need to be rebuilt.

oh i know, i was just warning you that if that topend blows ittl take eveything else with it

the hondas handling , and ergo's are way better much more enjoyable to ride imo, but i preferred the yz's motor and reliability

any of these four strokes that are ridden hard, every ride change your oil, including yfz quads, or if you ride easy, every 2-3 rides but no matter what i try to make it every ride

I think both the yzf and crf are both very reliable, for me the ONLY time my 2005 crf250r hasnt started up 1st or 2nd kick was before it was broken in.

The crf handles a lot better imo, the showa components are so smooth and the aluminium frame makes it handle like a dream.

Some people say the yzf's engine is more powerful but I do not think so. The only thing the yzf has on the crf is that the yzf has a little bit more overrev, but thats why a lot of people short shift the crf to stay in the meaty midrage.

hope I helped, p.s. look into the suzuki and kawi, some say they are the best of the 4 with some suspension modifications.

YZF. Everyone I know who has the CRF is constantly having to get the valves shimmed and/or new valvesafter about every 6 to 8 races. My friend has never had a problem with his YZF though.

I love my crf. Haven't had any problems with it yet knock on wood. Its been ridden hard for about 8 months and ive changed the oil every few rides and the airfilter every ride. If you are looking for a used crf and you find one thats an 04, there is going to be valve problems but that was mostly fixed for 05. The handling is great compared to the yfz but the yfz has a beafier engine and more overrev but all in all if your going new go for the crf, used go yzf I guess...

If you want power go with the YZF if you want handling and suspension go with the CRF. The RMZ/KFX are good bikes also.
