everythig is good about the 400ex. no problems what soever. the only dislike i think their might be out there is the new styling. personally i think honda should have left it alone.

ACTUALLY.......99-04 stock will do 67. sumthin mph and a stock 05 will do i think its like 59. sumthin.....they did change the gearin and thats the result

i like the gearing change on the 05 400ex. I don't like the new plastic set up, the old was better, and i don't like the fact that it weighs 13 pounds more than any other year.

REVERSE! it is so nice to have...and i like the new styling better. The old style was too plain and OLD.

isnt that the truth. my dad keeps bugging me to trade mine for one with reverse. but i only need reverse when following him on trails lol. and mine is much much lighter then his raptor.

man I am so #$%^ing tired of hearing that an 05 will only do 55 mph.thats a total load of BS.It had to be a misprint in the article this info came from...ive raced numerous 400's...including a stock 01 400ex,a stock 03 z400, and a 02 400ex with full exhaust,k&n,no airbox lid,rev box,and sprocket upgrades.....

when I was stock on my 05.....i beat the stock 400ex,1/2 a bike behind the z400,and 1 bike behind the modded 400ex....after i installed my hmf slip on,uni air,and rev box....i was beating them all......so anyone who wants to put there $$$ where there mouth is.....LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!

I beat raptors, yfz450's and 450rs all day on my stock 400ex. then when I modded it, i beat my neighbors jet car.

But on another note.. not one single person has said one of the most critical things..

THE LACK OF EASIER WAYS TO MAINTAIN THE BIKE! ie. NO DAMN ZERK FITTINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats my biggest bug with honda.. screw the reliablilty, if you can keep things properly greased without completly tearing down the bike, then what good is the bike?

its not an arguable point. its simple mathmatics. for 0 they drop a tooth or two, the bike will get up to its top speed a little faster, but because of the gearing drop, it WONT top out as fast.

it doesnt matter how fast the top speed is,how far are you guys racing 5 miles or somthing cuz where im from a typical drag is 300 ft and sometimes 500 ft,and my 05 400 has no problems at all smokin all those bikes,but i have been told i ride really good by the raptor guys while they still think i have a built bike,while the raptors are riding wheelies at the start i while put 3 to 4 bikes on them and its a mutha tring to play catch up you no what im sayin.

there is no way the 05' goes 59 stock and the 99-04's go 67.. yes it was faster but when me and my friend who has an 04' topped out to see which was faster his was barely pullin away

Well i have an 01 400ex with the 05 front plastics. I kinda wish i had reverse on my 01 so that must be nice to have on the 05's.

I like the "idea" of new plastics.. I just wish it was not the same as the R.

I bought an '04 and with my fatass on it I can only do about 60 with the 15 tooth stock sprocket. I recently put a 14t on it and it slowed it down quite noticably on the top end.

i like the plastic's, reverse is not always needed, but if you go on a 6 hour trail ride, theres times where it is VERY nice to have, only down side, you have to wait for all the other guys/gals to turn their bikes around.

its annoying for someone to ask me if its an r, not because i have to tell them no, its the fact that they cant tell the difference.

drag and trails (no mx yet) i've beat early years of 400's, i think a lot of people shift too soon.

As for all the claims that they can beat 450r's, i dont know how, i've races guys that are heavier than me and they still beat me.

doesnt anyone know how to calculate gear ratios, also ever consider if you dont break your quad in right, right to me anyway (moto tune way) than some are going to be slower than others.
Just put it this way...... 400ex's are SLOW if you dont have a few grand in it. they've had their day.

like the reverse, for the plastic i like the old look better,

my 05 only have a full big gun race series exhaust, a uni, and rejeted and it run like 2 or 3 mph slower than my girlfriend 03 that have only a yoshi slip on
dont no if its mine that go faster than normal or hers that its slower but i can say that both bike run a lot more than 60mph that for sure.

oh and i dont think that you lost 10mph with a drop of 1 tooth on the front sprocket
