My friend has a 2005 honda 450r and it is one week old. he had a t-4 full ex. put on it and a jet kit at the honda shop. he has a stock air filter. the jet is a 130. anyways the problem is.

when it warms up it sputters about half throttle. and we dont know what the problem is. The honda shop put it all together. I think the problem is caused because it does not have a k&n air filter with the jet kit or the air/fuel mix is off. does anyone know the # of turn out on the air fuel mix is with the jet kit. or anyother possible causes.

i would start the initial mixture setting at 2.5 turns out and try it with the air box lid off. that should help. but to get it right, u have to adj the mixture screw while its running

Man its running real lean! real lean. . with a full exhaust u need atleast a 180-190 main jet.

ok ill tell u my set up . i got a Sparks pipe. Full pipe. jet at 190 main jet. No lid. stock filter (doesnt matter what filter) Runs good.
Be sure to fully warm up the bike. play around with the pilot screw. 130 is way to lean! get atleast a 180.

If he were running with the lid off he would be lean, but if he is not, then its probably about right

your air fuel mix screw is only for idle to 1/8 throttle. do not touch it if you don't know that much about carbs. you are too lean on main jet... i would try 150 - 160 with stock air filter and lid on. then experiment from there

pull the spark plug out and look at it thats how your gonna tell if its lean but dont use a new plug an old one is better because if its lean it will just burn all of the carbon off....

Sounds like its running rich. With the lid on, even with a full exhaust, you're not gonna go up too many sizes on the main jet. The type of filter is not gonna make that big of a difference. Bring it back to the shop that did the work. It shoulda been right when it left there. The last R we installed an HMF full exhaust on, I believe we ended up running somewhere under a 130 with the lid on.
