I was wondering which one is best for wheelies, ramping trailriding etc. I dont plan on racing it how much faster is the 450r vs. 400ex

the difference between the 400ex and 450r are like the difference betweek the 400ex and 250ex. The 450r is better at everything

there is no comparrison between the two. I just got my 450R yesterday and got rid of my 400ex and I couldnt believe the difference between the two, the 450R is better at everything. Go with the 450R you will love it.

i thing i suggest though if you do go with the 450r. get a 13 tooth sprocket for it. so you have more lower end because if you are riding with someone that is slow. its gonna make your 450r bog down and you will have to clutch it more. and you can do hillclimbs in 2 gears instead of first gear. because sometimesi just wish i would of had that 13 tooth sprocket because i was doing some hill climbs one time and it scared the crap out of me i don't think i could of down it in 1st because i wouldn't of have enough momentem to get up the hill.

but one think about it you will go slower when you are on a back road or something and sometimes you just wish you had that 14 tooth sprocket.

but i am gonna get a 13 tooth sprocket here pretty soon

instead of a 13 tooth sprocket why dont you get a slipon exhaust and that solves that little bogging issue and you get to keep stock gearing ;)

the 450r is good for wheeling and trail riding the only problem the the 450r is kick start if you dont mind that they are the best all around put a one smaller tooth sprocket on the front and and exaust you have the best quad around for now

kick start isnt a problem, ive never had to kick mine more than twice before it starts up.

I dono what kinda of trails you guys ride on. but my 400ex will out "trail" a 450r any day. the guy I go riding with has a 450r and he complains about the high gearing, but doesent want to loose top end speed. I like my 400ex on the trails, on the track it kinda sux with the stock suspention, however I can barley keep up with the 450r. I was loosing about 1 quad length every lap, till I pushed my self too far and tore up my ankle on a harsh landing.

going wide open the 450r was loosing me, not by much tho. I would say he was going no more than 2 mph faster. he was just barley crawling by me. His maching is stock tho. I have rev box, comp exaust, re jet, air box mod.

my 400 ex and 450r do not have huge top end difference.. but holy does the 450r get there way faster. acceleration it stomps but once wound out only 3-5 mph faster..... oh wait then throw some mods and and forget the 400.

1st gear being high isnt a problem as long as you ride the clutch when you need to in the trails.

I can pull from a stock 450r on a 400 from 1st all the way to 3rd or 4th, then he starts to pull away.

so what your telling me is either 1. the guy on the 450r cannot ride a ATV or 2. You are pretty good at riding and he is decent

sure you can call me craptor man or what ever you want but still if it came down to us having a little xc my "craptor" would blow the 450 only if i still owned the raptor but hey who cares

Nice looking forward to comparing my 400ex and 450r, I just recently purchased both of them for 7G's, total steal.

The 400ex has some mods and the 450r is bone stock.

to solve this problem you only need more lower end and you will befine. just go about it in your own way of getting the lower end
