clear plastic intake tube

clear plastic intake tube. what does it do. because my local dealer said it had to be put back on. i dont see that it can do anything cause it hugs up against the gas tank. please inform me

its a snorkle.. it allows air to enter the airbox, and not water.. it will allow water if you get the bike up to where the gas tank is.. i dont have mine on, i have a spray can top inplace of it to block it off, and with no airbox lid, k&n and a outerwear and its fine..
