I was wondering what everyone must have on there 400. Not litelary. but something that if you ever got another 400ex you would get right away before anything else. Whether its Elka shocks, or hmf exhuast, or even a new counter sprocket.

Im just curious of what everyone thought

Suspension (pep for me) right off the bat before ever even riding it. Other than that, a set of CR-Hi bend bars are essential, high comp piston, cam, exhaust (prefferably full, at least slip on), chassis skid, front bumper, remove choke, parking brake blockoff, filter, airbox vents, jet kit

Its not for me to buy these things. I just wanted to know basically if someone was really impressed with something they bought. Or something someone would swear by. And im not building an Everyone else bike. Im making a quad that will fit me good.

I would have to say the stand out mods on my 400ex, were:
1.Roll foot pegs, so much better!! or any wider footpeg with a kickup
2. The airbox to clean up the electric mess and battery from the subframe(just cause it looks much cleaner),
3. Roll +3 front end with Elka quadrates. Can you say caddy!!

for me air scoops were a must have. i ride pretty hard and the enigne get really hot. so it helps to keep it cooler. many of the parts listed are not must have, they just are nice to have.;)

there are so many must haves!! but, I would say

Elka

Damper
nerfs

then a pipe IMO

vinson581
06-04-2005, 03:57 PM
in all honesty i would have to restate what i said.

just get a pipe and tires, get your suspension all done THEN break in to the motor, you cant go anyware with the best motor in the world if your suspension cant handle it!

thats what i was saying the fastest motor doesnt mean anything without a suspension to handle all that power

suspension is #1
motor is #2

imho the VERY first thing you buy are good nerfs. what good is a pipe or suspension if your too busy having knee surgery?

Nerfs
pipe
better front shocks

I agree with nerfs. For someone who is tall, propeg nerfs with pegs located further back and lower is the trick. The only ones I am aware of are an old DG design. I think they are now made by Magnum. There is a guy selling them on e-bay but I got my last 2 sets through C&D Racing.

And a close 2nd is the heated hand grips sold by Rocky Mountain. (not really hand grips but the heating element that goes under your regular hand grips.

The EHS lid is a nifty piece to have.

Any brake blockoff with recessed allen bolts.

PEP EZ clutch lever

+1" antivibe steering stem. I like Burgard's because it is great quality and cheaper than the others.

Recently switched all the quads to 22" RAZR 2s. Couldn't be any happier. The added ground clearance makes a huge difference in the trails.

Tires and nerfs would be my first upgrade to almost any quad that I bought. On the 400 the handlebars bend really easy, so a set a renthals are great. Next, I would get a Magura Clutch kit. That is the first thing people notice when they ride my quad. I have had several people go buy them very soon after riding my quad.

I agree with the nerfbars ALOT!... I wished I had a set after I spraind my ankle by running it over with the back wheel because my foot sliped off the peg! LOL!

I put on nerfs, tag T2 fatbars and full skids before I took the first ride on mine.

Yup! I have them on mine. Great pro pegs...very big pegs and a lot lower..Very nice, except I kinda have to pick my foot up to hit my brake lever. Only problem I had with em was the mounts that the webbing goes thro all cracked off or bent.
