well, this is the FIRST RPM axle i have ever seen break. I hit a triple about 70-75 foot and snapped on the landing. I landed perfect, man im disappointed, never heard one bad thing about RPM, but i will keep running their axles...

anyone else seen an RPM break before?

pics...snapped right by the splines...

A guy I ride with who rides a YFZ, and is hard on equipment, has broke one Durablue, 2 RPMs (one of them was the dominator II) and the stocker of course the first day he rode it. He is now trying out a lonestar with good luck so far. Time will tell. I think companies should send stuff to this guy for torture testing. He's broke his frame, his subframe is bent, broke his swing arm, transmission let go once, top end let go once. This is all MX racing and practice.

What was it like when it snapped? Never had it happen to me before

That is crazy. You never hear any complaints or problems with RPM normally.

well, landing from a 75 foot triple and snapping an axle...it is alot of impact and you just kinda think to yourself "FU(K"...

Gotta brace yourself and hold on...

I think the one Nate Freeze broke in Huevos 4 was an RPM but that must suck to break that I bet the landing on that was pretty wild

what was your YFZ friend doing to break a dominator II. I had a RPM on my 300EX and I put it through alot with no trouble.

He was making a practice lap right before a race. He came up a little short on a small double, maybe 20ft. He wasn't going very fast but must have caught it right in perfect spot. He ended up having to race some stockish 400ex he borrowed from someone. He didn't do too well that day.

friend of mine broke his durabreak last week and the only way he hung on was to put his right foot under the exhaust header. There was melted rubber on the pipe after that. Also roostin, his broke right where yours did to right before the splines.

Well Ive seen the guy you bought that quad from air it out pretty good with no problems. I guess it could have had a fracture in it and then you just finished it off.

bobbo, how come your friend switched to a lsr from the RPM. The dom II has a lifetime warranty.

He wanted to try out the LSR. He bought the dominator II thinking it was the best due to the huge price tag. I guess he just wants to have tried everything. I don't think he ever runs out of money. On his last buying spree, he bought all black laker custom plastics, OMF beadlocks, quadtech seat cover and new foam, PEP 8clicks front and rear, and JB LT a arms.

Must be nice to throw that amount of money around.

yEAH i BROKE A DOM II. 85 ft. tabletop. I sent it in and they said the warranty was void. I had like 5 scratches from bearing failure. They said when I lost my bearing it heated up the axle enough to change the composition of the material, that's why it snapped. I bought a dom I and a spare carrier, loaded. It has a warranty also. I have had lsr and rpm. RPM does make a quality axle.

That is the first RPM I've ever seen broken!

Edit: My buddy said he only broke one RPM axle and it was a Dominator II. I thought he had said two of them.

I bent my RPM the very first time I rode it:grr:

I never hit nothing I may have landed a little crooked but nothing bad.

I prefer LSR they are not as tapered like th RPM

I just wish LSR offered a XC axle like RPM does...

well, they guys at RPM are bein dicks about the whole thing. They wont replace it because i do not have an original reciept.

I bought a new Dominator and i am just gunna send my broke axle back in with this warranty card, so i will have an extra now...

That might not Work the axles have a serial number on them:( Right in the middle)

ahh, i didnt even think of that. I have had LSR on ALL my past quads, never had one problem with them...

Im sticking with my LSR I love it.I use it for XC and never had a problem with it.

If I had to buy another I wouldnt hesitate a second to go LSR its not tapered to the end and its strong and cheaper.

Good luck on your decision:D

Yesterday a friend of mine who broke a durablue two weeks ago put his new lsr axle on and bent it today. We cant figure out how cuz the jumps were so small and he didnt land crooked or anything. Whats up with this?

I think bending/breaking axles has a lot to do with suspension setup. You don't see the Pro's having many problems because their suspension is perfect...

Shawn H
06-06-2005, 10:16 AM
Not in my case my suspension is
Perfect:devil:

That's just what I was thinking, could be wrong. Mine is bent from hitting trees so hard racing when the trees are to narrow. I want to get a new one, but I don't want any wider, and RPM is the only one that offers a smaller axle or stock width. I think the LSR is from +1 +3...

Shawn H

You could be right?

I have bent my share of axles from scrubbing trees too.

As for the LSR axle to be honest Im not sure what lengths it goes too. I know I run it with no spacers and Its about even with my fronts that are +1 arms with 4-1 offset

Dave400ex
06-06-2005, 12:15 PM
I just measured my front and rear a bit ago. The rear with stock axle and Douglas shamrocks was right around 46-3/4 wide. The front with +1 LT a-arms and Douglas 4+1 shamrocks was right around 45-1/4. That was with the front compressed pretty well too.

i dont tihnk it was because of suspension, my shocks are set up as perfect as i can get them...

I have seen a few pros break axles in the past...

From what i have learned when it has come to axles is they have to bend to take some of the force. I had an RPM on my EX and had zero problems with it, i HAD a LSR axle on the Dale but it bent that thing like a pretzel. Everything will break eventually, just a matter of time!

By the way, Tim Farr broke a RPM at the Red Bud GNC during practice this year.....
