Okay I have some files, mostly videos, that I want to transfer from one of my computers to the other, but how can I do this? Is their anyway to connect them directly through an ethernet cable if so how can I set this up?

Thanks

im not sure on how to do it, but it is possible. at school we have all the computers hooked up to 1 network. so if were working on like a powerpoint in a group, we just put it in a folder and everyone can open it and work on it.

couple different ways i can think of...

get on aim on both computers and send them there.

email them to yourself, and then open them on that computer.

save them on a disk and then load them on the other computer.

Buy a second hard drive and move all the files onto the secondary hard drive. Now you can use that hdd on either computer

you could just setup a network with a home router, setup the computer to share the files and then copy and paste them onto the second comp

No way to do it without a router?

Thanks for the trying to help 250EXridr but these are really big files and those would take forever

Of course the CD burner on the computer I'm taking the files from is broke so thats a no go. I used a 64MB USB Drive for pictures and documents but the videos are just to big for that.

I think you can but you'd just have to try it

i think you can hook an ethernet cable from one to the other and allow remote access on both and transfer. i'm not sure it was explained to me but not very well.

I've been floating around with ethernet to ethernet, I'm pretty sure it's possible, but I just can't quite figure it out.

Just get 2 ethernet cards.....one in each computer, run a cat 5 cable between the 2, and start both the comps up...it should find everything and let you transfer. Or you can take the one hard drive out....put it in the other computer, transfer files then replace the hard drive in the other computer, dont forget to change the jumpers

You need an ethernet cable set up as a crossover cable.

Here's a link for where to buy one, or you could even make one yourself.

I used a program called intellimover. It came with a cable and software so I could swap everything from my old pc to the new one. I moved all my themes, mp3's movies and pics and didn't lose anything. Worked great and didn't cost much.

like what was said above a network crossover cable will be the cheapest way to go. are any of them running windows XP?
if so you can use the home or small office network wizard. that would be the easy way to do it with out having to explain step by step the twenty five steps it will take. any more help let me know

Cat5 and 2 ethernet cards is all you need.

Ive been running this setup between my two computers for over a year now. One running XP and the other Windows ME.

Simply plug them up and run the setup wizard, making one computer the host. Pretty easy to do. :)

You will then have direct access to transfer files and what not and since most ethernet cards run at 100mbps, transfer should be relatively quick.
