While I haven't had to replace the seal, I have had the cases open on several occaisions and there's no way that I can see for you to get to it without cracking it open.

i had replaced a counter shaft seal on my yz it was easy. however i am not sure if it is the same but heres how i did it. first i took the chain and sprocket off, next i got a blade screw driver and dug the seal out (being careful not to scratch the case where the seal seats) after i got it out i cleaned the area of debris. put a light coat of greese on the out side of the seal and then gentley press by hand to make sure it would go in straight, get a small peice of pipe that is the same dia and the seal. gentley tap the on the pipe on all sides however be carefull you dont drive it in to far into the case keep it flush with the outside of the case like it was before you took it out. hope this will help you good luck
thanks, i got to it thursday nite. i reached in with a right angle pick and pulled the old seal out, piece by piece. then put new seal in with socket.
