No, the frame and/or the swingarm would have to be modified to work. It isn't worth the effort, a 400ex swingarm has no advantage over the 250r ones.

well my friend has a 250r he is parting out. and i just broke the housing on my swingarm and i don't wont to pay $200 plus when i can get his housing and axle for $100. so do you think the housing will fit my 400's swingarm

If your talking about the bearing carrier,the R and the EX are identical.The carrier is the part with the bearings in it that the axle slides thru.These guys are right about the whole swinger swap.Iv eseen it done but with some modifacations.The R uses bigger bolts for the linkage and and some trimming to clear the motor is necessary.

BTW,you can use the R axle if you have the R wheel hubs.These are the same for the R and the EX except the hubs are splined differently.
