Hi, i am new posting on here. Got out of riding for 4 years, and getting back in now. What is the difference in the trx250 and the sport trax 250?
We will be riding open and wood trails, no big jumping and racing on a track. The person riding the bike, is 5' 3" and about 170 lbs. Will the bike do a good job?
The good old question, how fast is the stock bike?
thanks

no difference between trx and sporttrax... the bike will do fine if you dont jump it that high and its definitely not a racer. i think top speed is around 50 mph i could be wrong.

I think the difference is between trx250x and trx250ex. I believe the x is the sport model and the ex was the utilitarian model. Had luggage racks etc. on it. I am close to the same wieght and my 250x is a great trail rider and it runs great I know some guys with raptors and I would say that "in the woods" tight turns and heavy ruts they are no faster than me. They will blow me a way on the straights and can leap twice as far in the air but the 250 is fine for me.

Actually the 250x was discontinued in 1992 (or so) and with slight modification it became the 300ex. As for the question at hand the trx250m is the Recon utility model, the trx250ex is the sport model. The trx250ex is a great quad for just general purpose riding, keep in mind it's no race machine, if all you want to do is trail ride and play around it's perfect for that, it's shaft drive and autoclutch which mean's very low maintenence which is a good feature on any quad. Hope this help's:D

Hey WheelerBob Just a note my 1991 250 is chain drive.

The TRX250X was made in 87-88 then stopped for a couple of years then were made again in 91-92. The discontinued them and in 93 came out with the 300EX
They were chain drive and kick start only. They are very different machines than the 250EX

The 250EX is a electric start, auto clutch and shaft driven that is pretty much a 2WD recon.

Correctamundo the only real difference between the 250ex and the recon is the plastic's and rack's , Honda did tweek the valve angle's a bit to get about 10% more hp, they also changed the gear ratio's in the tran's to make it feel more sporty but that's about it, it still make's a good all around trail quad as long as your not planning on tearing through any whoop's or jumping 20 ft in the air, just my opinion. :D :D :D

Thanks for the replys..
On the Honda site it says Sportrax 250ex for 3499.00. then it has a Trx250ex 3649.00. They are both sport models, just do not know the difference. It has the same thing for the 300ex.
I am sorry , i did not mean the older 250x, which is a great bike..
The shaft and auto was a big plus for me too.....

i see how your getting confused... "trx" is the name thats now being given to all the sport quads, "sportrax" is the former name...or to explain it more clearly - trx's are the '05's, the sportrax's are the '04's on the honda site. the reason for the price difference is just the one is newer.

yes there is, i am pretty sure the trx is also the recon, you have to look at the last letters to know the differnce, or just look at them

IMO, if you've ridden before, at least get a 300ex at the least. a 250ex will bore you after less than a week unless your a beginer

trx is the first the call letters for almost all hondas and has been around forever, fourtrax was the old name for the sport quads, then it was changed to sportrax

They are a great beginner quad. They make for a great backup if your friend forgets to bring his/hers. I like mine because I don't have many wide open spaces to ride in. I can go over to my brother-in-laws and ride a nice MX style course and jump a table top, ride through tight turns a small hill climb and if I scratch the plastic I'm not out much. The only maintence I do is change the oil and filter. I have ITP spiders on the back and it will sling mud over everything but I have not gotten it stuck. I would say that at least for where I live it is a great piece of equipment. Would it be a good sand rider like at glamis, probably not will I win any races with it (only if a major wreck happened that took everyone else out of the race) no but it does everything I ask it to.

no misprint, look at the site. the trx is the 2005 model, the sportrax is the 2004 model.

no shizt, but sportrax is what all of the sport quads were called. now they're changing them all to trx so that the honda wheelers all have the name trx.

2004 Sportrax 250ex

http://powersports.honda.com/atvs/sport/model.asp?ModelName=Sportrax+250EX&ModelYear=2004&ModelId=TRX250EX4&bhcp=1

2005 TRX 250ex

http://powersports.honda.com/atvs/sport/model.asp?ModelName=TRX250EX&ModelYear=2005&ModelId=TRX250EX5

same quad, one is a year newer and has a new name.
also, look at all of the other sport quads, notice the sportrax and trx? all quads are the same just newer and different names, except the 400ex that got a little tweeking.

The TRX250EX is a great entry level quad. My wife, 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son are starting on this quad. It's a little big for the boy because he is just 80LBS dripping wet...:(
I love riding it around the yard and tight trails. It's just not the same when the wife wants to ride the TRX450R and I'm stuck on the TRX250EX!:eek2: The good new, she tires out pretty quick on the 450!!!

the 250ex is a great quad for beginners, but if the rider is 170 pounds he will feel a bit cramped and powerless on it. trust me i know, i wiegh 175 and it is way to small for me, and didnt have near the power i wanted/ needed after a few seasons on it.

i would get a 300ex, its a little bigger overall and has more power/speed(but not alot) and it has a clutch which will teach him to ride good. plus it has a lot more potential if he plans on modding it, which no1 makes any sort of aftermarket parts for the 250ex. except for a filter and pipe.

Not true you can get a powroll big bore kit, cam, extended axle's a-arm's. There are lot's of aftermarket part's for the 250ex granted there are not as many part's available for the 250 as there are for the 300,400ex, but you can increase the power on the 250ex dramatically. And as for being cramped i'm 6'4 260lbs and i don't feel cramped at all, if you look on the honda website you will see the 250 is only about 2 or 3 inch's shorter than the 300ex, those figure's may not be exact it's been a while since i've been on the site but you get the idea. I think the 250ex is a good quad for anybody who just want's ride and have fun, But don't expect to win any race's with it. Just my opinion.:D :D :D :D
