Same here....be careful you can over gusset.
I would like to see pics of some gussets and like to hear some theories on how it strengthons or weakons the frame. I WILL BE DOING MINE IN A WEEK!!!

I know this is an old thread but does anyone else have any ideas on gussets on a 250R. I'm getting ready to gusset mine.

Also does anyone know the thickness of the metal that should be used for the gussets. Thanks.

here's my frame, it was explained to me that if you make the frame too stiff, it will crack more and in unexpected places. So you want the frame to flex some. If you like the way my frame was done, I can give you the number of the guy who did it.

I think I know who did it. I am going to do mine myself. I just need to know the thickness of the metal that is used. Thanks for he pick I'm going to do mine similar. Also how big in the diameter of the tube that your pivot bolt goes in that has been welded in. Thanks again.

you'll need a min. of 1 3/8" tubing to allow for a socket to fit the large swinger nut.

Thanks for the reply. What thickness will the steel plate for the gussets need to be? I was thinking 1/8 inch but I'm not sure.

Hey guys I have another question. I went to Lowe's to buy the steel I need and they did not have any steel tubing. They had the plate but it was like $13 for 12x18 inch sheet. Is there a better place to get this stuff from?

I guess if you are getting your fab parts from Lowes, you could use gas line black iron pipe with the inside dia that you need???? I would get my hands on some 4130 chromoly if I were you though.

hey i dont want to start nothing, but seriously, thats the crappiest front shock stay i have ever seen, it is so uneven.....

your right though too much stiffness is a bad thing. the pictures i have shown has been tortured by ME and held up Very well. the swing arm area I DO LIKE on deathmans and is definately an area which will benefit form total beefing up with no recourse for flexing..

i use 1/4" steel and you only need a 18x4" to cut all the gussets not a huge squared piece. it will make it harder to cut.

by the way when you cut the gussets its best to use an angle grnder to get the gusseets to fit perfectly in place.. a little finesse with the grinder and they fit perfect...

goood luck
