well guys, i think the time has come for me to sale the 400. I'm in need of more power and potential. I'd like to hear any pros or cons about the 450r. can anyone give me an idea of the power increase from a 400 to 450?

You wont go wrong. Power from a 400 to the 450r is amazing. Everything is like 10 times better. Ill tell you one thing though. You will prob think kicking its hard and 1st gear is to tall BUT good news. A 13T front sprocket is PERFECT and kicking will become easier after a little while. Everything on it is awesome I love my bike and wouldnt trade it for the world. Goodluck man hopefully you'll join the family:D

On the other hand my 416ex outhandles every 450r I been on so far. If you love the handling on your 400ex and if you have money sunk into it as I did mine i'd look into a hybrid first.

So does the 450r ride any different than the 400ex. Like sitn over the gas tank? I know my handle is 450r but im just sportn the name till i get it:D

I want to know know cuz the 400ex fits me like a glove.... AND THE 400 is real nice ride n.. dont want the 450r to be all wierd and stuff.........

Any body here in salem let me test ride their 450

in my opinion the 450r feels high, in every corner you feel like youur going to get tossed off it anytime [it doesn't do that but feels like it is going too] My 416ex goes where I point it no matter what throttle position im at.

My 450r even widened handle's much better than stock, but still has the feeling that I am sitting way on top of it. Where my 416ex has the feeling that I am part of the atv.

As for power no matter what you do to the 400 it wont have the power the 450 has reliably. I mean you can build it bore & stroke and do all sorts of things to keep that reliable, but still the 450 motor will have more.

So the bottom line is if you are that happy with your 400 i'd look into buying a 450 dirtbike or a used 450r motor to have installed into your frame. Then you'll have the handling you like and are use too. As well as the motor that has 40+ hp stock.

I went from a 400ex to a 450r and i couldnt be happier , better handling , susp , brakes and its much faster . I used to get outrun by my friends dvx400 by 2-3 quad lenghts but now i have 7 or 8 lenghts on him. The kickstart is very easy and its takes a little while to get used to the tall first gear , i installed a hmf slip-on , jet kit , no lid and a k&n filter and it helped it out alot , it was like uncorking a beast , bottomline is ..... get one and you will never look back.

yea man get one. I picked up my new 2005 450r 3 weeks ago and couldnt be happier with it. I went from a 300ex to a 450r and the power is awsome. When i first got it i thouught i was gonna get knocked off of it. Its Badass. Go get it man!

I agree with the majority here. There is a major difference between the power of the two. But I found that in the tight, super technical aspects of XC trail and desert trail, a 400EX can keep up with me fairly well. But when it comes time to be able to get on the gas during a straight away, that is where I make up the ground.

But I will say this, I loved the way my old 400ex (with suspension mods of course) handled way better than my new unmodified 450R...Solution, I am purchasing a complete high end suspension kit for the 450R. That is what should make this riding experience an A+ (above what it already is)!

At the moment, I too feel that the 450R want to roll in the corners and it feels like you sit up high. But suspension mods will correct that.

BTY, did I mention that Chris Borich only has a HRC and Alba pipe? Yet he kicks @$$ right? It all starts with suspension..(and of course your ability to ride helps too;) )

PS. The kick start is a non issue..it is rather fun. In fact, funny story:

As we were out camping, my friends 11 yr old son asked if we could go for one last ride before we left. My friend said, " If you can get my bike started (a 450R) in three tries or less, we will all go for one last ride" He thought he had the one up, until his son started the 450R on the first kick. And he has never ridden a kick start before. I wasn't complaining about going for one last ride.
