Top dead center??? 400ex

how do i know when my 400ex is at TDC and how do i get it there??

you have allen bolt on the left side cover of the engine,take off the 2 big and little one and put a 17mm socket in the big one and turn the engine COUNTER CLOCKWISE and check the little hole,when a t marke is align with the notch on the hole,your are a TDC

take the two allen plugs of the side of the crank case, than take the 4 caps to adjust the valves of the top of the engine. slowly spin the flywheel with a socket and watch in the smaller upper allen hole. there are several marks on the flywheel that u need to line up with the notch in the hole, when one of the notches is lined up check the rocker arms in the four holes in the top of the engine, if all 4 valves are closed ( rocker arms are all the way up and have some play in them), ur at top dead center
