I need help!

I was riding this past weekend and the spark plug threads have stripped out, does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? I have heard something about "helicoil"??? from the guys that towed me in from the dunes. The spark plug does not fit in the hole now. Has this ever happened to anyone? What could be the cause?

with a helicoil, you take the head off and rill out the spark plug and thread it, then you insert the helicoil (looks like a spring almost) it threads in then your spark plug goes back in. with yours, did you cross thread or over tighten it.

don't think I would heli-coil a sparkplug hole, I've not heard any lasting success on one of those yet. I would be searching for a used head.

Where can I get helicoil? I think I overtightened the plug.

Any good auto part store like a NAPA dealer or Ace Hardware.

Permatex makes a thread repair kit you might try. I know Ace Hardware sells it.

Why exactley wouldn't you helicoil a spark plug hole? A helicoil is a perfect thread and the automotive industry has been helicoiling spark plug holes on aluminum heads for years.
