I know many of you have used the crf450 cam chain in the 400ex, just wondering if there are any long term reports of how well it is working.

Has anyone taken apart thier motor after using the chain for any length of time and noticed any abnormal wear?

Many hours on mine with no problems. The 450 chain looked pretty much identical, except each link had an additional plate. Aside from width, which doesn't seem to be a problem, all of the other demensions seem to be the same. As far as the price difference goes (don't quote me on this), I remember someone in an old thread saying that the 400ex chain was made in Japan (import tarrifs, etc.), while the 450r chain is made here in the USA by Moog. Stronger chain for less money? Sign me up.

You obviously haven't seen the two chains side by side then cause there is no comparison.

spend some REAL time building REAL motors... you'll find out a rod is not just a rod - the same goes for your cam chain...

The crf chain is considerably less $'s than the 400ex chain, that's the only reason why i'm asking about it;)

Thanks for the input from those who have experience with the crf chain:)

My buddy re-used his stock cam chain on his 440. Well let me just say he's lucky it broke instead of jumping a tooth on the cam sprocket. We pulled the chain out and if you lay it out on a work bench you can literally stretch the chain about half an inch with your hands!!!:eek2: I couldn't believe it didn't jump timing on him which would have been catastrophic!
