I heard that polishing the cylinder will trap in more heat. Is that true, and if it is, will it make enough extra heat to make a difference?

No, It shouldn't hold in more head. I know that anodizing actually helps the cylinder rid of heat. You can google emissivity of certain things. I've looked up aluminum, and found out all the ways to raise the emissivity (raise the amount of heat being dissapated.)

Oh my, disregard my previous statement. I was wrong. Polishing the cylinder ( to a heavy shine) will hold in more heat. This is from a site that I use "Highly Polished 0.039-0.057 " That is the emissivity of highly polished aluminum. The maximum is 1.00 emmisivity. Oxidized aluminum, or sandblasted, like the stock head, is .20 -.31. That is much higher. Most anodizings have .77-.88

Ok I think I got that, will polishing it hold in enough heat so that the engine would run too hot?

No, it shouldn't run much hotter. Maybe a few degrees, nothing critical. the main thing is that it will hold heat for longer, meaning that the cylinder may take longer to cool down. It is an odd thing how heat works, along with the emissivity.
