i have a twin brother and we both bought 400ex. i have a 2002 and he has a 99. i was wondering what you would do for make it so u could blow him out of the water whenever you wanted to?

Remove the airbox lid and also rejet the carb. This makes a noticeable difference.

One of my first mods was the Curtis Sparks Timing advance kit, and changing to a 14 tooth sprocket in the front. The off-the-line power and hillclimbing improved greatly.

14 tooth front sprocket sucks for top end though

Indeed, keep the stock 15T sprocket.

I had the 14 on my EX awhile back and with my exhaust and intake mods + rejet, the 15 made the bike much faster overall.

The 14 made it feel TOO zippy in 1st and 2nd.
