I have an 88 250R that has been bored to a 400. It has a Polaris head. It has extremely high compression. I am having some problems getting it to start without priming it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you mean it just wont start because the compression is so high?

If so, I don't really know what to say other than lower the compression, or get to the gym.

The compression is extremely high, the spark plug doesn't spark everytime i kick it... and I don't have a problem in the gym... I was also wondering if you know where I could get an airbox eliminator kit, or if you know an easy way to make one.
Thanks

Compression isn't your problem if the plug isn't sparking everytime. Check your coil, plug wire, ground and exciter box.

I went and checked the ground and everything, but it still doesn't spark very often... what should I do now? It will still only try to start when I pour fuel into the spark plug.

250r cdi's are known for producing a weak spark. But being as old as they are, its understandable. If your using a R CDI, Im willing to bet that's your problem.

Some say to wrap the CDI in electrical tape, others say to put the CDI in the freezer, and install after. If it works, then it's shot. Although I have never tried in the past.

You can make a airbox eliminantor if you wish. Basically it's just a bracket to support your airfilter. So with a bit of fabbing skills, make a clamp to hold and support the airfilter.

Sounds like you might need an aftermarket ignition. The guy that does my motor work built one for his son-in-law, and I hear it was sick. He has suggested using the ignitions for my friends 330r and it made a big difference, so that might help out alot for the 400.

Go to everything2stroke.com and download the TRX250R manual from the manuals forum. If you do not have winzip9.0 you will need download the trial version so you can open the spanned zip.

Use the manual to ohm your wiring harness and electronics.

FYI a Polonda uses a Polaris 400 Scrambler cylinder\head mated to a 250r bottom end.

If you think thats hard to start try the cr500 engine :)

Anyways, your problem is most likely followthrow.... if you dont kick it completely through it will not start right away.

Adjust your kickstarter more forward in so you get a longer kick.

Yeah, I am just getting all of the finish work done on it. Then I will tell you if it lives up to all of the hype... I sure hope so. It is kinda hard to get all of the little stuff done for it, but I am expecting it to be done by next Friday. I am building it for hillshooting, do you know what rear paddles would do the best? I was thinking of getting 22-11-8 tripple buff skat-traks with 12 paddle gliders, but they are a lot of money, what would you recommend?

the Rs spark is sometime hard to see also have you looked for a broken reed? that will make it hard to start also.
